Golf is a wonderful sport for all ages
Sunday, 07.01.2007, 01:58pm (GMT)

The game of golf has been around for many years but somehow it has managed to stay pretty much the same. How can that be? Well the answer is simple. The game is very simple in nature but does require a huge amount of patience, skill and finesses to get good at. This difficult skill is tough to master and that is the reason there is no need to change rules or anything like that. A golfer must be able to combine dexterity, judgment and strength in just the right formula to ensure that the ball goes far, straight and has the right spin in order to make it to the green and not the hazards.

The swing of a golfer is the most important part of their game by far. Lots of people focus on the clubs and the other equipment issues but without a good swing the club is useless. The swing has a few key elements that can be the difference between a great swing and a terrible one. We will cover them from the right handed perspective. Be sure that when you are on your way back that you reach as far as you can and keep your upper body over your right leg. Flexibility training will help you reach as far back as you need to.

Once you perfect the back swing and get the reach as far as you can then it is time to focus on the rest of the swing. The whole point of the swing is to get the club head to move as fast as it can before impacting the ball. The fast the club is going when it strikes the ball the further the hit will go and that is of course the whole point. On the way down focus all of your energy from your hip and arms to make the club go as powerfully as you can while pushing your right leg forward. Granted you may never get the ball to go 120 miles per hour but you will grow in power over time.

Many people feel that once the golf club hits the ball the swing is over and that is not the case. The ability to follow the swing through separates the great golfers from the average ones. Allow the club head to go through a smooth rotation and the swing to follow through all the way to the back again. The more you practice the good techniques the quicker your swing will get better and better.
