When Google Says No To Your Website
Sunday, 05.20.2007, 02:14pm (GMT)

The search engine giant, Google, undertakes periodic updates of its database. Google Engineers are also very agile to change the basic algorithm from time to time to meet up the needs and demands of their visitors, and more so to make the index Spam free. In different unofficial release from Google it comes to surface that blatant SEO tricks to Spam and abuse their algorithm has made the task more challenging for them. In this scenario, the webmasters, whose hard labor for nourishment of Google index, are always afraid of being dropped out of the index. It is no more a joke that webmasters these days pray to the God early in the morning with the hope that there websites may hang in the index and fearfully fire out the infamous site: operator to have a cross-check.

This has been the life of the webmasters, and I am in no way going to support those, who play tricks to abuse the algorithm itself. Google has a very clear policy guideline for webmasters and those must not be kept out of mind, whether you are going to promote your website, or to optimize it for better search engine ranks. The guideline states that:

1. No Clocking

i.e., Presenting a different version of web pages to the crawler.

2. Avoid hidden text or hidden link

It was another blatant SEO trick to load pages with keyword rich hidden text, which visitors could not see, but would help in Search Engine Rankings due to high keyword density. Presently, it is of no use as high keyword density may itself invite a Google ban.

3. Not to send automated queries to Google

Different Search Engine Optimization Software Utility sends automated queries to Google, and Google does not like it, although, it is rather difficult to detect if done within limit.

4. No irrelevant words

It is a common practice to load pages with words just for counting’s sake; but that is not at all desired.

5. No Duplicate content

Sites with exactly the same content, or worse, sub-domains with same content - are bad practices. Google picks up and penalizes plagiarism nowadays more quickly than ever before.

6. No Doorway pages

Pages with little or no original content and has just been created for the search engines.

7. No Affiliate links only pages.

If your website has affiliate links, you must add some unique content, otherwise Google Ban is just a matter of time.

Apart from that link trading or too much link exchanging, or exchanging link with a site - already banned by Google, may result in a ban. Depending upon the degree of offense, a temporary or permanent ban may be sentenced. A temporary ban, which is the most common one, may extend for a period of one to six months, and during this period, Google will neither index your website, nor crawl it. A permanent ban is more serious in nature and has seldom been used.

So, now you may get what are the different sources, which may invite a much-undesired Google Ban. But what to do, in case you find your website out from the Google index. First of all, check whether any policy violation has been taken place or not. Sometimes it might happen out of inadvertence. Sometimes, it might have been done by the SEO company, whom you have entrusted with the duty to push your website higher in the Google index. It is a good idea to see the source code in the browser window to check if there is anything wrong that you have not noticed so far.

Once, you have figured out what is wrong, simply rectify it and pay some more attention to adding fresh content, or removing dead links from existing pages and submit your websites to different directories. If you have not done any major crime, it is more likely that the Bot will give a visit within a month or so. There is obviously another option open for you and that is to file a reinclusion request. But getting an immediate response to reinclusion request is not that easy considering huge number of requests made each day by the webmasters across the world.

Thus, if Google says no to your website, do not get panicked, neither leave all the hope. Try to figure out what is wrong, and simply rectify that. The Bot is clever enough to pick up your Website once more and send visitors to it. In case there is a delay, you should file a reinclusion request. But, there is every possibility to see your website again in the index after few months.
