Pterophyllum scalare (ter o fill' um ska lar' e)
The scientific name for the freshwater angelfish is quite descriptive. Pterophyllum is derived from the Greek word for "winged leaf" and scalare means "like a flight of stairs" in reference to the dorsal fin. It is a Latin word that can also mean "ladder". Angelfish are laterally compressed or look like a disc on edge with long fins coming out of the top and bottom and have 2 'feelers' in front of the anal or bottom fin. The tail is vertically oriented and may be ffrom scoop shovel shape to long and relatively narrow depending on the variety.

by Kaycy Ruffer at www.kcff.net In 1988 I tried spawning Angelfish. A good friend of mine in Red Bluff, he owned the local pet shop at the time, told me the best thing to do was to hatch and raise the fry myself. He eventually sold his pet store to one of his employees so he could spend all his time breeding Angelfish for the area wholesalers. I tried my hand at breeding the beautiful Angelfish again

Guppies Foods and Feeding
Sunday, 05.20.2007, 01:09pm
Guppies are not too choosy about foods and are very easily fed. They will accept any dry foods offered; for their size, they have enormous appetites. However, dry good diets are not sufficient and must be augmented with either live, frozen or freeze dried foods. When in season, collected mosquito larvae make an excellent diet supplement. Tubifex worms are also excellent.
General Care of Angelfish
Sunday, 05.20.2007, 01:07pm
The actual aquarium size is relatively unimportant. However, the number of angelfish per gallon is critical. This figure varies depending on several factors. Obviously, size has a lot to do with carrying capacity. Other variables that affect this include, pH, temperature, feeding practices, water changing volume, water changing frequency, strain of angelfish being kept and the overall quality of angelfish you desire to raise or maintain. Keep in mind, the number of angelfish per gallon a tank can handle, will vary immensely from one situation to another. The following would be a very general guideline.
